Books, aprons and chocolate chantilly

Writer J.L. Borges said he could only envision paradise in the form of a library.
If I had to choose a room which resembles most my ideal place, it would be a mix between
a tea room and a bookshop.

Last week, I nagged Monchéri to transport our long narrow table, from the living room
to our little bookroom downstairs. This is our favorite room, which we try to maintain
always immaculate, as much as we can. In summer, we both fight for the sofa, at siesta's time,
as it's the coolest room in the house. This summer, I intend to use it as a dining room....except
that, the first thing I did when we finally managed to put the table in the bookroom
was to cover it with my favorite books. Monchéri didn't object although, he'd rather see
a bottle of wine or two to go well with the books, as he says, books and wine make a good pair.

My friend Nuria came this afternoon for coffee and thought the long table was quite an
improvement. She challenged me to transform our little bookroom in a table d'hôtes and
host a French dinner for her and her friends. I don't know yet if the idea of making
boeuf bourguignon for 12 people appeals to me but....pourquoi pas ?
Anyway, the day Monchéri took these pictures, we were only 3 and the meal was
much modest but the dessert was quite la crème de la crème....
A chocolate chantilly which is also ridiculously simple to make.

The recipe comes from the wonderful Mercotte, the only thing
is that you have to prepare it the night before but the result is definitely
well worth the effort. I've never tasted anything so deliciously smooth
and chocolatissimo of course. I was planning to make some candied oranges
but instead served some fresh slices of oranges. Still, I managed to make
ladyfingers for the first time of my life and honestly, they taste much better
than the ones you buy in stores.

I'm wearing my latest Food & Literature Lover apron. This one says
en los tiempos del colera (Love in the time of cholera) by Garcia Marquez.
By the time, I write this post, this one is on its way to his future owner in
Paris. Luckily I managed not to spill some chocolate chantilly while doing
these pics !

Je porte mon dernier tablier "Food & Literature lover".
I've completely forgot to say on this blog that the first series of Food &
Literature Lover aprons is now in a very pretty litte shop in Nice, which
I must tell you about soon. What I like about this apron is that it can be
equally worn by men and women and it looks equally beautiful on both.

Break the chocolate into small pieces.
Heat up 165g of liquid cream. Add the honey and bring to a boil.

(recipe by Gérard Mulot)

Makes 20
3 large eggs
80g of sugar
80g of flour
icing sugar

Preheat the oven at 180ºC.
Separate the egg whites and the yolks. Whisk the whites until firm peaks then add the sugar gradually. The whites must be firm and shiny.
Add the yolks still whisking and stop once the mixture is homogeneous.
Add the flour delicately with circular movements from bottom to top in order to keep the air incorporated in the whites.
Pour the mixture in a pastry bag with a smooth tip and extend the biscuits on a baking tray covered with baking paper.
Sprinkle with icing sugar. Let dry for 5 mn then sprinkle icing sugar again.
Bake for 15 mn. The biscuits must be blond. Place them on a rack to let them cool.
You can keep them several days in a metallic box away from humidity.

Recettes
